Thinking about this Facebook post from _The Daily Signal_…
Of course The Daily Signal is going to paint this with a patina of Norman Rockwell-isms of children playing in the street and mother’s holding their hands over their children’s ears to prevent them from hearing language they probably hear in every FPS game they play, but that’s the sort of contrivance The Daily Signal plays: harkening back, with every rhetorical arrow in their quiver, to the warm and glowing time when things were ever-so-much simpler, before things that made our heads hurt, like racial consciousness (‘we should be color blind, provided that people act like whites’), sexual justice (‘it’s not that I don’t think that women are equal, but, you know, some are more equal that others, for example, Justice Barrett, who’s about to overturn Roe v. Wade: her I like), gender rights (‘I don’t mind gays, so long is they stay in their enclaves and don’t come out where I can see them interacting with each other‘)
It’s sad, but if Justice Barrett wishes to overturn 50 years of SCOTUS precedent, she would be unwise (nay, foolhardy) if she didn’t expect some pushback. The Supreme Court is not Mount Olympus, where the Gods get to decide the fate of us mere mortals, while drinking nectar and eating ambrosia. It should be firmly rooted in this world.
And, if isn’t, then …
If Mohammad won’t come to the mountain, let the mountain come to Mohammad.
More later.
